Gabrielle Auclair est une artiste originaire de Victoriaville, dorénavant basée dans la ville de Québec. Son parcours artistique l’a menée à Montréal pour y obtenir un baccalauréat en arts visuels en 2020, puis en Espagne, à la Transforming Art Institute, pour y parfaire la photographie et enfin à l’Université Laval de Québec où elle est en voie d’obtention d’une maîtrise en arts visuels en 2023. Sa pratique a su se développer au fil des années dans divers milieux professionnels tels qu’en cinéma, au Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec, en enseignement des arts comme auxiliaire au baccalauréat ainsi qu’à plusieurs expositions, collaborations et participations en galerie.
démarche artistique
La pratique de l’artiste prend ses racines conceptuelles dans la présence d’une absence, d’un vide. Ce dernier se développe dans l’environnement qui l’entoure, dans la beauté de la finalité inévitable et pourtant délectable, dans la nostalgie de l’artiste, dans la tension entre le passé et le présent, dans les empreintes en paysage, etc. Pour rendre ces idées, l’artiste développe diverses formes d’art : la photographie argentique, le papier fait main, l’écriture poétique de forme libre ainsi que des installations multimédias.
Gabrielle Auclair trace du bout des doigts des liens entre ces matérialités pour se perdre dans leur entre-deux. L’espace de vide s’instaure au fil de ses créations entre le public et l’artiste, ainsi qu’en soi-même. L’intention de l’artiste n’a pas d’intentionnalité, laissant une lecture ouverte où les conditions rendent possible l’inscription.

Gabrielle Auclair is a Quebec artist from Victoriaville who now lives in Quebec City. Her artistic career brought her to Montreal where she completed a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 2020, then to Spain where she perfected her photography techniques at Transforming Art Institute and finally to Laval University in Quebec City where she is currently completing the last year of a Masters Degree in Visual Arts. Throughout the years her practice grew in various professional environments such as the film industry, the Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec, as a Teaching Assistant and as a participant in various gallery exhibitions and collaborations.
artist statment
In her practice, the artist is conceptually inspired by the presence of an absence, an emptiness. Such voids are integrated in their surrounding environment, in the inevitable and yet delectable finality of beauty, in the nostalgia of the artist, in the tension between the past and the present, in the marks on a landscape, etc. The artist translates these ideas using various mediums: analog photography, handmade paper, poetry writing as well as multimedia installations.
With the tip of her finger, Gabrielle Auclair draws artistic lines, joining together different mediums where one can escape in the in-between spaces. In her art, there is a distance between the artist and the public and even within the viewer, themself, thus creating a space which can – or cannot - be filled. There is not intentionality in the artist’s work as she chooses to create conditions that leave its reading or interpretation open to the viewers.
